Refresh During the Holiday Season at North Lake Tahoe
Every year, families gather in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains for annual traditions that span generations. With good reason, nothing feels like the holidays more than spending the day in North Lake Tahoe in the crisp alpine air or dining next to a cozy mountain fire. This year, spruce up your holiday routine and try something new after spending a day on the slopes. Check out the following activities for a few ways to get into the holiday spirit with the whole family:
For the Kids
Skip the mall and take the kids to breakfast with Santa at the Resort at Squaw Creek every Saturday and Sunday from November 28 to December 20 as well as December 23-25, before the big guy heads off to deliver presents. After breakfast, head over to the ice rink at Squaw Valley’s High Camp or the Village at Northstar. Pro tip: Grab a seat around the fire at the Village at Northstar around 3:30 and warm up with free S’mores.
Cheers to the Holiday Spirit
Clink your glasses and ski boots together for “tōst,” with complimentary champagne served on the slopes at East Ridge at Northstar every day at 2 p.m. If delectable bites is what you’re craving, be sure to check out the tapas style Manzanita restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe located on the mountain at Northstar California. Sit at the Chef’s Table for an up close and personal view into the kitchen and one-on-one conversations with the in-house chef.
It might take more than a few dinners at Manzanita to fill out Santa’s suit, but it’s worth a shot at the annual Mt. Rose Santa Ski Crawl on December 12. Join hundreds of skiers and snowboarders in the holiday spirit dressed like Santa, Mrs. Claus or the elves and receive a discounted lift ticket for the day.
Holiday Celebrations
The Resort at Squaw Creek kicks off the holiday charm with the 11th annual Magical Memories celebration, a celebration lasting from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve with plenty of events for the whole family. Menorah lighting, Grand Tree Lighting and Gingerbread Village unveiling ceremonies are just some of the events offered. Free seasonal concerts, local music, holiday dining and more are held in scenic Squaw Creek for the annual festivity.
Light Up a New Year
Mt. Rose sets off a New Year Spectacular on New Year’s Eve from 4:30 – 6:30 pm with a Snow Cat Parade, Kids Torchlight and the main event: fireworks! Any skilled skier aged 10 and over can become part of the nighttime parade happening shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Tahoe Donner also provides a Torchlight Parade for intermediate skiers and riders. The festivities include snacks and a DJ in the bar area before riding down the mountain under the stars at 6:15pm.
