North Lake Tahoe Opens for Summer this Memorial Day Weekend
NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – (May 26, 2016) North Lake Tahoe transitions into summer over the Memorial Day weekend with annual opening day celebrations in Tahoe City, the West Shore and around North Lake Tahoe. For the first time since late 2014, water flows through the Truckee River Dam in Tahoe City again as lake levels rose to the natural rim in April and continue to rise as the weather warms and snowpack melts, making this summer one to celebrate.
Enjoy celebrations like the 29th Anniversary and Deck Party at local favorite Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge starting May 27 at 11:30 a.m. Live acoustic rock music from Ike and Martin from 3 – 6 p.m. and a silent auction and raffle drawings throughout the day benefiting the Sunnyside Scholarship Fund, beginning summer with philanthropy and fun.
The historic Lake Tahoe Maritime Museum opens its second location in Tahoe City as well as a new exhibit for summer starting Friday, May 27 at 10 a.m. Learn about the vessels that call Lake Tahoe home with a variety of exhibits and guided tours. Tours are only $5 for adults and children are free. Also check out guided tours of Vikingsholm, Lake Tahoe’s hidden castle tucked away in Emerald Bay starting Memorial Day, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. Tours are $10 for adults and $8 for children age seven to 17. Children under seven are free.
Becoming one of North Lake Tahoe’s most engaging events, the Made in Tahoe Festival returns to The Village at Squaw Valley this Memorial Day weekend to celebrate all things local. The festival features live music and performances on three stages, as well as over 100 local vendors offering food, drink and artisan goods made or inspired by the Lake Tahoe Basin.

“The entire community comes alive in North Lake Tahoe during summer, which calls for a celebration,” said Tourism Director J.T. Thompson. “The long Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to kick off a summer filled with sun and activities.”
Prepare boats for launch at public ramps such as Lake Forest Boat Ramp open daily from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., or at Sand Harbor open Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. North Lake Tahoe is home to 11 boat ramps, many of which are open this season already and begin full operations including boat launching and rentals this Saturday.
