Did You Know? North Lake Tahoe Historical Fun Fact:
Starting in the late 1800s, the Comstock Lode silver rush began in and around Virginia City, Nevada. Trees logged from the Tahoe Basin were needed to build the silver mines. Hearing all about this breathtaking Lake, travelers began riding the Lake Tahoe Railway from Truckee to Tahoe City, along the Truckee River. Visitors flocked to newly fashioned lodges as they stepped off the train in Tahoe City, California. Steamships carried passengers to romantic resorts on both the California and Nevada sides of Lake Tahoe. As roads were built and passable, driving became another way for visitors to experience Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Although the railway and steamships no longer exist, the lure of the Lake has always captured the hearts of travelers in any century.
