North Lake Tahoe – What’s New Summer 2018

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. (Summer, 2018) — North Lake Tahoe’s commitment to environmental health, capital improvements and expanded pedestrian-friendly routes highlights the region’s imminent renaissance this summer. Master-planned improvements include the replacement of Fanny Bridge and addition of a shared-use path in Tahoe City; and the development of State Route 28 Shared Use Bike Path from Incline Village to Sand Harbor.

Summer highlights include 2018 Summerlong Long Music, offering complimentary weekly shows across multiple venues; Fourth of July Celebrations throughout the region’s individual towns and communities; the 10th Wanderlust Festival at Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows; and new guided outdoor adventures, providing further access to North Lake Tahoe’s peaks, backcountry and largest alpine lake in the U.S.

Getting Here: new non-stop flights to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport

WEST SHORE

Dining – West Shore Cafe, accessible via boat valet, welcomes new Executive Chef Rob Wyss and his California-inspired menu. The restaurant hosts the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, Aug 22. The new Tahoe Fusion, an Asian-Latin inspired food truck across from Homewood Marina, is open weekly Thu. – Mon.

Events & Activities – The new Homewood Event Center, formerly the Tahoe Maritime Museum, is open for weddings, family reunions and conferences. Other events and activities include:

SQUAW VALLEY | ALPINE MEADOWS

Go Green! – Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows donated $43,235 to the Tahoe Fund and the Truckee River Watershed Council through its Green Bucks program, which allows guests to add donations to purchases. The resort will host the second-annual “Ride On” Employee Bike to Work Program which reduced the resort’s carbon footprint in 2017 by 4.3 tons.

Dining – The Resort at Squaw Creek debuts its newly renovated Montagna Restaurant, a modern approach to classical Italian fare. Take the Aerial Tram to High Camp at Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows for dining at 8,200 feet; or enjoy various restaurants in the Village at Squaw Valley.

Events & Activities – The Resort at Squaw Creek offers guided Pedal & Paddle tours, and classes through its Fly Fishing Center. Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows offers weekly live music at Bluesdays in The Village at Squaw Valley.  Additional events and activities include:

TAHOE CITY

Capital Improvements – The Fanny Bridge project includes construction of a new county bridge, addition of a roundabout along SR 89, and development of a new county road to bifurcate traffic around the city. The 89/50 “Y” to the Trout Creek Bridge project will increase pedestrian mobility and collect and treat stormwater runoff as part of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program (EIP). An additional project includes Granlibakken Resort’s new Soul Shelter meditation space, gym and reflection garden.

Dining – Wolfdale’s Cuisine Unique, owned by Chef and Restaurateur Douglass Dale, celebrates 40 years of its commitment to simply prepared, Japanese-inspired cuisine. Chef Dale shares his passion for locally sourced products through intimate, Farmer’s Market cooking classes through August.

Luxury – Fly Blackbird, a premier seaplane air service, offers commuter flights from Sausalito to North Lake Tahoe, near Tahoe City. A Tahoe Luxury Property concierge can arrange a boat taxi from the sea plane to their lakeside residences.

Events & Activities – Tahoe City Golf Course, the oldest course in Lake Tahoe, celebrates its centennial anniversary with a season of promotions and events. Designed by female pro golfer May “Queenie” Dunn-Webb in 1918, ladies can enjoy a 9-hole round of golf every Thursday for $19.18. Additional events and activities include:

CARNELIAN BAY

Luxury – Stellar Tahoe, Lake Tahoe’s newest luxury boat charter service, hits the water this summer. Born and raised on Tahoe’s West Shore, Captain Matt Lund shares his in-depth knowledge of the lake with passengers. Stellar Tahoe offers private luxury charters, boat bar hopping tours, sunset and stargazing tours.

Dining – Gar Woods offers discounted Wet Woodies every Wednesday through summer.

Events & Activities – The 11th annual Tahoe Paddle Race Series, May 26, July 21, Aug. 25 and Sept. 15, is the longest running paddle race series in Lake Tahoe. Event proceeds benefit the nonprofit Lake Tahoe Waterman Association.

TAHOE VISTA

Dining – For healthy, grab-n’-go options, try Pep’s Place; or for fine dining and seasonal ingredients, enjoy Old Range Steakhouse.

Events & Activities – Tahoe Adventure Company, a local sports outfitter and guiding company, celebrates 15 years of outdoor recreation. The North Tahoe Regional Park includes a disc golf course, playground, dog park, trails, ballfields, and picnic areas. Yoga and jazzercise classes at the North Tahoe Event Center are open to visitors and residents. Additional events and activities include:

NORTHSTAR CALIFORNIA

Dining – Enjoy on-mountain dining at the Downhill Grille + Bar, golf course dining at Martis Valley Grille, or visit the various restaurants in the Village at Northstar. The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe offers a series of interactive fine dining opportunities, including:

  • The Backyard Brick Oven Experience – open weekends through July 1, and daily through Labor Day weekend: Culinarians teach children the art of building pizza

  • Art of Mixology – Sundays: Features three unique cocktails paired with appetizers

  • Manzanita Chef’s Tasting Counter – nightly with advance reservations: An interactive five-course tasting experience featuring views of the open kitchen and personal interaction with the chef.

  • Moet Champagne Brunch – Sundays: Brunch menu, including unlimited Champagne and Bloody Mary Bar.

Events & Activities – The Northstar California Bike Park, the largest lift-served bike park on the West Coast, hosts a variety of events this summer, including a Specialized Bike Academy at Northstar, Pumps on Pedals, and the Northstar Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series.  Additional activities and events include:

CRYSTAL BAY / KINGS BEACH

Capital Improvements – Boulder Bay, a luxury, mixed use redevelopment of the current Tahoe Biltmore, focuses on rejuvenation, recreation and relaxation. Upon completion, it will include a 275-room hotel, a world class health and wellness center, 20,000 square feet of meeting space, retail, fitness, casino and 59 residences. As part of the master redevelopment, Granite Place at Boulder Bay will feature 18 luxury condominiums with pristine views of Crystal Bay.

Dining – For lakeside views, an outdoor Sand Bar and All-American fare, visit Jason’s Beachside Grille; or for up-scale dining, enjoy Soule Domaine or Spindleshanks Restaurant.

INCLINE VILLAGE

The new Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Bikeway North Demonstration Project (SR 28 Shared-Use Path) will improve safety, mobility, water quality, and recreational access from Incline Village to Sand Harbor, and eventually extend to South Lake Tahoe.

Dining – Enjoy locally-sourced ingredients, outdoor fire pits, live music and lake views at Lone Eagle Grille; or small plates at Bite! American Tapas.

OUTDOOR OUTFITTERS – From water sports to backcountry exploration, various outfitters offer guided experiences and equipment for all ages.

  • Wild Society: The “Troupe of Travel Ambassadors & Masterminds” offers a variety of guided clear kayak experiences, including after dark light-up tours in clear-bottom kayaks. Additional activities include guided trips through Desolation Wilderness, and Yoga and Paddle events.

  • NEW Off Road Tahoe: The first guided off road tour company in the Tahoe-Truckee area. Participants can take three hour tours for up to seven people in Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs).

  • Clearly Tahoe: The clear-bottom kayak company invites kayakers to experience the lake at depths of up to 65 feet.

  • Dirt Gypsy Adventures: The outfitter offers trailhead shuttles around the Lake Tahoe Basin for hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers looking to tackle point-to-point excursions.

  • Tahoe Mountain Guides: Offers bike rentals, shuttle services and guided tours for riders of all levels.

  • Waterman’s Landing: The paddle craft rental company offers recreational and performance stand-up paddleboards, single and double kayaks, canoes and outrigger canoes. Waterman’s Landing specializes in private and group instruction, fitness programs, SUP yoga, tours and corporate experiences.
